If you’ve had a Shih Tzu for very long you know they can have issues with tear stains. This can lead to a build-up of bacteria which can then cause an unpleasant smell. It is best for your Shih Tzu and for you to keep their face as clean as possible, but what are the best face wipes for Shih Tzus? Here are some great options.
What Are The Best Face Wipes for Shih Tzus?
I’ve tried a lot of different face wipes over the years.
Both of my Shih Tzus tend to have a lot of issues with tear stains.
It’s pretty common with Shih Tzus.
So, to keep them looking, smelling, and feeling better, I do what I can to keep their faces clean.
I also want to make sure that the pet wipes don’t irritate or hurt my dog in any way.
It can be a balancing act, but using a face wipe each day is a quick and easy way to keep their cute little faces clean and looking their best.
Here are some tear stain removers, or pet wipes that I can personally recommend for Shih Tzus that have sensitive skin and any eye issues.
I’m only going to list three options because I have used all three of these and they have all worked well for me.
I don’t think you could go wrong with any of them.
1. Healthy Breeds Dog Tear Stain & Facial Wipes

- Gentle on the sensitive skin around the eyesPresoaked and textured wipes used to remove dried mucus, secretions, and tear stains
Finding and using face wipes or tear stain wipes is really important if you have a Shih Tzu.
Those tear stains aren’t just unattractive to look at, they are full of bacteria.
That bacteria can cause an eye infection and that’s the last thing you want.
If you haven’t been using tear stain wipes, the best time to start is after you have your Shih Tzu groomed or you give them a bath.
That way, any build-up they might have around their eyes will have been taken care of.
From there, you can use the wipes daily or even twice a day to keep any buildup from coming back.
My groomer has told me you can also use baby wipes and that they work well. That’s what she uses, but I have to admit that I prefer using wipes made specifically for this problem.
Just be sure if you go the baby wipe route that they are hypoallergenic and unscented.
